De Profundis

Founded by Mark Dourish in 2011, and based in Cambridge, UK, De Profundis was recently described as ‘ace’ in The Guardian. The choir performs Continental Renaissance sacred music at the original lower pitch, employing the adult male singers appropriate to the period. The group’s concert schedule involves some of the world’s leading early music conductors: past and future directors include Andrew Parrott, Andrew Carwood, David Skinner and Jeremy Summerly.

In concert, De Profundis specializes particularly in the music of Renaissance Spain, and this is also reflected in its discography on Hyperion. The choir’s recording of music by Sebastián de Vivanco (CDA68257) was awarded five stars in Diapason and was one of the Discs of the Year in El País. The group has especially enjoyed performing in Spain at Ávila and Salamanca cathedrals, the El Greco festival in Toledo, and the music festival at Las Navas del Marqués.
