Roger Vignoles (piano)

Roger Vignoles is one of Britain’s most outstanding musicians. Originally inspired by the playing of Gerald Moore, he decided on leaving university to pursue a career as a piano accompanist, completing his essential training with the distinguished Viennese-born teacher Paul Hamburger. Since then reviewers worldwide have consistently recognized his distinctive qualities as a player. Among his first partners was the great Swedish soprano Elisabeth Söderström, whom he regularly accompanied throughout the 1970s and ’80s, and he has had particularly fruitful collaborations with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir Thomas Allen and Sarah Walker.

Roger Vignoles is a prolific recording artist. His recordings for Hyperion include albums of songs by Beethoven and Mahler with Stephan Genz, Wolf’s Eichendorff-Lieder with Stephan Genz and Bernarda Fink, and songs by Peter Warlock with John Mark Ainsley, Duparc with Sarah Walker and Sir Thomas Allen, Mozart with John Mark Ainsley and Joan Rodgers, Russian songs by Musorgsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Britten with Joan Rodgers, English songs by Britten, Finzi and Tippett with Mark Padmore and Rossini songs with Miah Persson, Stella Doufexis and Bruce Ford. He is also the guiding force behind Hyperion’s survey of the songs of Richard Strauss.
