The Goldner String Quartet regularly appears at major music festivals around Australia and internationally, in addition to national tours for Musica Viva. They made their debut at London’s Wigmore Hall in 1997, and in New York (at the 92nd St Y) in 2001. The Quartet has also performed in Korea, China, Singapore and Brunei and has undertaken several extensive tours of New Zealand.
For more than two decades the Quartet has appeared annually at the Music in the Hunter festival and at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music where it is Quartet in Residence. Special projects have included a major retrospective of twentieth-century string quartets at the Adelaide Festival, and a complete Beethoven cycle for Musica Viva. These performances, recorded live on ABC Classics, won Best Classical Recording in the 2009 Limelight Awards. Their collaboration with Piers Lane and Hyperion—encompassing Arensky, Bloch, Bridge, Bruch, Dvořák, Elgar, Harty, Pierné, Taneyev and Vierne—has attracted rave reviews.
The Quartet had a special relationship with Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe, with three CDs of his music and a live DVD documentary recorded with the composer, celebrating his life as seen through his works for string quartet. New works have been regularly commissioned for the Goldners from many of Australia’s leading composers.
