'Shaham and Erez deliver outstandingly committed performances, revelling in the music's virtuosity, fantasy and heightened intensity of expression' (BBC Music Magazine)
From 1917 are the two Pastels, Op 44, dedicated to Efrem Zimbalist, with contrasting characters. The first is broad and poetic, its melodic idea developed in rich chords and deep registers, building to a chromatic climax before a calm conclusion. The second transforms its sprightly melody through skipping sequences and fizzing balletic pyrotechnics.
