Simon Carrington is Principal Timpanist in the London Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he has held since 2002. He joined the London Symphony Orchestra in 1991, becoming Principal Timpani and Percussion in 1995, working extensively with musicians such as Pierre Boulez, Sir Colin Davis, Bernard Haitink, John Adams, and Steve Reich, before moving to the LPO. Simon has played as guest timpanist with all the symphony orchestras in London and others including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, English Chamber Orchestra, and the World Orchestra for Peace. He is Senior Professor of Timpani at the Royal Academy of Music and has given masterclasses around the world, as well as coaching the European Union Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra. He also enjoys arranging music and many of his arrangements have been performed at the RAM, as well as by London Brass.
