Josep Caballé-Domenech (conductor)

Josep Caballé-Domenech is General Music Director of the Staatskapelle Halle, and Music Director of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. He was born in Barcelona, into a family of musicians. He studied piano, percussion, singing and violin and took conducting lessons with David Zinman and Jorma Panula at the Aspen Music Festival, Sergiu Comissiona, and also at Vienna’s University of Music and Performing Arts.

He has conducted many orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic in London, Tonhalle Zurich, WDR Cologne, Swedish Radio Symphony, Czech Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Munich Radio Orchestra, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Baden-Baden Philharmonic, Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra in Milan, Trondheim Symphony, New Japan Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, and the Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM in México. He has also been Principal Guest Conductor of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted Torroba’s Luisa Fernanda at the Theater an der Wien with Plácido Domingo and the RSO Wien, the premiere of Enric Palomar’s La cabeza del Bautista at the Barcelona Gran Teatre del Liceu, and Puccini’s Tosca at the Vienna Volksoper. His recording of Respighi’s Roman Trilogy with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was issued by Onyx Classics.
