Hilary Cronin (soprano)

Selected by BBC Music Magazine as a ‘rising star’, the soprano Hilary Cronin won both First Prize and the Audience Prize at the 2021 London Handel International Singing Competition.

Acclaimed by the New York Times as ‘a soprano of winning complexity and emotional weight’, she has collaborated with conductors including Sofi Jeannin, Johanna Soller, David Bates, Harry Bicket, Kristian Bezuidenhout, Harry Christophers, Jonathan Cohen, Laurence Cummings, Christian Curnyn, Maxim Emelyanychev, John Eliot Gardiner, Nicholas Kraemer, Stephen Layton, Paul McCreesh, Trevor Pinnock, Christophe Rousset, András Schiff, Dinis Sousa and Peter Whelan.

In addition to regular appearances with ensembles such as The English Concert, Irish Baroque Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Polyphony and The Sixteen, she made her debut at Teatro La Fenice singing Fauré’s Requiem and has enjoyed engagements with the BBC Philharmonic, Britten Sinfonia, the Hallé and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

She made her debut for MusikTheater an der Wien singing the title role in a new production of Cesti’s L’Orontea, and her operatic engagements have further included the title role in Handel’s Arianna in Creta with La Nuova Musica, the title role in Semele for Waterperry Opera Festival and Piacere in Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno with Early Opera Company.
