Aleš Briscein (tenor)

The Czech tenor Aleš Briscein is particularly well-known for his interpretations of Leoš Janáček’s opera characters and is one of the most sought-after interpreters of Slavic operatic repertoire in general. For his exceptional interpretation of Janaček’s works – including the roles of Boris (Katya Kabanova), Albert Gregor (The Makropulos Affair), Luka Kuzmič / Filka Morosov and Skuratov (From the House of the Dead), Števa and Laca (Jenůfa), and Mazal (The Excursions of Mr. Brouček to the Moon and to the 15th Century) – the Leoš Janáček Foundation has awarded him with its Memorial Medal.

Aleš Briscein is regularly heard on concert stages around the world with repertoire including Dvořák’s Stabat mater, Mahler’s Symphony No 8, Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 and Missa solemnis, Stravinsky’s Les Noces, and Weill’s Die sieben Todsünden (The Seven Deadly Sins), among others.

He works regularly with conductors such as Robert Jindra, John Fiore, Sylvain Cambreling, Kent Nagano, Tomáš Netopil, Kazushi Ono, Alejo Pérez, Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Simone Young.
