Carole Wilson is regarded as one of the most accomplished mezzo-sopranos of her generation, with a wide repertoire, ranging from Mozart and Rossini to Sondheim and Gerald Barry. She made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2002, and has returned many times, notably as Aksinya in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, a role with which she has been particularly associated and which marked her debuts with Opéra national de Paris; La Scala, Milan; Teatro Real, Madrid; Staatsoper Hamburg; Dutch National Opera; Teatro di San Carlo, Napoli; and the Bayerische Staatsoper. She regularly appears at Opéra Royal de La Monnaie (Brussels), where recent engagements have included Mrs Lovett (Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd), Ježibaba (Dvořák’s Rusalka), Gertrude (Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette), Stařenka Buryjovka (Janáček’s Jenůfa) and Annina (Verdi’s La traviata).

Carole has appeared under the baton of the worlds leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Antonio Pappano, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Semyon Bychkov, Kirill Petrenko, Ádám Fischer, and the late Sir Andrew Davis, Bernard Haitink, and Sir Charles Mackerras.
