Developing his musical studies at ESMAE under the guidance of Fausto Neves, Luís Filipe Sá and Madalena Soveral, he continued his studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest with László Baranyay (piano) and Rita Wagner (chamber music). He has participated in various masterclasses with Josep Colom, Helena Sá e Costa, Sequeira Costa, Arbo Valdma, J Bourgès-Maunoury and Miguel Borges Coelho.
Luís has performed as a soloist and chamber musician with Ian Bostridge, Christoph Prégardien, Pedro Burmester, Espinho Classical Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música and FIME Ensemble under the direction of Cesário Costa, Paweł Przytocki, Alessandro Crudele, Stefan Blunier and Paul Hillier.
He has recorded for the Brilliant Classics label, as well as Portuguese National Radio (RDP Antena 2), Slovenian National Radio and Classical Planet (Euroclassical). Luís has premiered works by Ângela Ponte, Fernando Lopes-Graça and António Pinho Vargas.
As a freelance pianist he collaborates regularly with the Casa da Música (Porto), Remix Ensemble and Porto Symphony Orchestra, working with conductors and singers including Péter Eötvös, Heinz Holliger, Emilio Pomàrico, Vassily Sinaisky, Sofi Jeannin, Peter Rundel, David Wilson-Johnson, Stephan Loges, Anke Vondung and Michaela Kaune.
Luís works as a piano professor at the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho and teaches Lied and Chamber Music at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo Porto. His debut album ‘Portuguese music for piano duo’ was awarded the ‘Prémios Play’ (best classical music album in Portugal) in 2022.
