Danny Driver (piano)

One of Britain’s most respected pianists, Danny Driver has achieved international recognition for his sophistication, refinement and musical depth. His studies at Cambridge University and at the Royal College of Music inspired his holistic approach to performance, and have enabled him to cultivate a broad repertoire encompassing three centuries of music, from J S Bach and Handel to György Ligeti and Thomas Adès.

Driver’s performance schedule takes him across the UK, Europe, North America and the Far East. He has appeared as soloist with the Hallé, Bournemouth Symphony, BBC Scottish Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, American Symphony, Hong Kong Pro Arte and Minnesota orchestras among others, and has twice appeared as soloist at the BBC Proms. In recital he is a regular performer at London’s Wigmore Hall, Music Toronto, New York’s Bard Music Festival, and at UK festivals such as Lammermuir and Lichfield, having also made debuts at the Southbank Centre’s International Piano Series in London, and at the Salle Bourgie in Montreal. Driver’s passion for chamber music is reflected in his enjoyment of long-standing musical partnerships with violinist Chloë Hanslip, cellist Oliver Coates and bass-baritone Christian Immler.

Driver’s solo recordings on the Hyperion Records label have received widespread acclaim, including Gramophone Award nominations, National Public Radio’s Top Ten Classical CDs of 2010, and Limelight Magazine’s Instrumental Disc of the Year in 2014. Previously released recordings include music by Handel, C P E Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Balakirev, Amy Beach, Cécile Chaminade and Leonard Bernstein, as well as authoritative advocacy of neglected British names such as York Bowen, Dorothy Howell, Benjamin Dale and Erik Chisholm.

Danny Driver lives in London with his family. Outside performing he teaches a small class of advanced pianists at the Royal College of Music.
