The occasional piece Many Years, a charming gift to a personal friend, was composed for the fiftieth birthday of the Prince of Wales in 1998. It was first performed at Hampton Court Palace in November that year, when an alternative version for SATB chorus was heard. The greeting ‘Many years!’ is commonly used in Orthodox countries, either on special occasions or as an everyday expression.

Œuvre de circonstance et charmant présent à un ami intime, Many Years a vu le jour à l’occasion des cinquante ans du Prince de Galles, en 1998. Sa première audition – dans une version pour chœur (SATB) – eut lieu au Palais d’Hampton Court, à Londres, en novembre de cette année-là. Dans les pays orthodoxes, il est d’usage de se servir de l’apostrophe « Many years ! » lors d’événements spéciaux ou comme une expression quotidienne.

Das Gelegenheitswerk Many Years, ein reizendes Geschenk an einen persönlichen Freund, wurde zum fünfzigsten Geburtstag von Prinz Charles im Jahr 1998 komponiert. Die Uraufführung fand im November des Jahres im Hampton Court Palace statt, wo eine alternative Fassung für vierstimmigen SATB-Chor zu hören war. Der Gruß ‘Viele Jahre!’ ist in Ländern der orthodoxen Konfessionen gebräuchlich, entweder bei besonderen Gelegenheiten oder als alltäglicher Begriff.
