The Fantasia in C, BWV573, was written into the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach; its twelve bars are pregnant with motifs which would clearly have given rise to a work of considerable length and richness had the composer chosen to continue it. The fact that an organ piece was included in a collection of predominantly harpsichord pieces has given rise to the speculation that Anna Magdalena wished to learn the organ. (Has anybody yet researched the subject of female organists in the eighteenth century?)

La Fantaisie en ut majeur, BWV573 fut écrite dans le Petit Livre d’Anna Magdalena Bach; ses douze mesures sont chargées de motifs qui auraient manifestement engendré une œuvre d’une longueur et d’une richesse considérables si le compositeur avait choisi de la poursuivre. La présence d’une pièce pour orgue dans un recueil d’œuvres essentiellement pour clavecin a donné à conjecturer qu’Anna Magdalena désirait apprendre l’orgue. (Quelqu’un a-t-il, à propos, déjà mené des recherches sur les femmes organistes au XVIIIe siècle?)

Die Fantasia in C-Dur BWV 573 wurde in das Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach aufgenommen; ihre zwölf Takte sind trächtig mit Motiven, aus denen ein Werk von beachtlicher Länge werden könnte, hätte der Komponist sich für eine Weiterführung entschieden. Die Tatsache, daß ein Orgelstück in eine Sammlung aufgenommen wurde, die vorwiegend aus Cembalowerken bestand, hat die Vermutung aufkommen lassen, daß Anna Magdalena den Wunsch hatte, Orgel spielen zu lernen. (Hat eigentlich schon jemand das Thema Organistinnen im achtzehnten Jahrhundert untersucht?)
