Jokes are cracked in Embryons desséchés, an elaborate discourse on the crustaceans Satie had read about in textbooks on marine biology. More amusing than the erudite comments is the parody he introduces of Chopin’s Funeral March and the fun he pokes at those rhetorical but protracted climaxes favoured by Romantic composers which go on for so long that the uninitiated are often tricked into premature applause.

Les Embryons desséchés, complexe traité sur les crustacés découvert par Satie dans des manuels de biologie marine, sont facétieux, même si les commentaires érudits s’avèrent moins divertissants que la parodie de la Marche funèbre de Chopin et que la manière dont Satie se moque des apogées rhétoriques interminables chers aux romantiques, mais si longs que les non-initiés se font avoir et applaudissent prématurément.

Amüsanter als die gelehrten Kommentare sind die eingefügte Parodie von Chopins Trauermarsch und die Art, wie er sich über die ausgedehnten Höhepunkte lustig macht, wie sie Komponisten der Romantik so sehr schätzten und die so lange anhalten, dass Uneingeweihte oft zu verfrühtem Applaus verleitet werden.
