If you’re like me, the aesthetics of Christmas can be … annoying. No, I’m not talking about having to see the family and controlling yourself from setting people on fire. And don’t get me wrong—I’ve a good ten years of Sunday School behind me, so I don’t object to Christmas on any religious grounds whatsoever! It’s just that I find Christmas, well, a bit kitschy. Maybe it’s the synthetic carols blasted at us in every shopping centre or the terrible Christmas albums by every third- or fourth-rate lounge singer or the saccharine biscuits and cakes at office Christmas parties.
I don’t mean to get you down about Christmas. It’s a beautiful time of the year, and it’s always a time when I get to listening to some of my favourite music—music which carries memories of that wonderment of childhood before it was destroyed by crass commercialism. So, here we go with four albums which I think you should go ahead and get:
