Frederieke Saeijs (violin)

The Dutch violinist Frederieke Saeijs achieved international recognition when she won the prestigious Premier Grand Prix, as well as several special distinctions, at the 2005 Long–Thibaud International Violin Competition in Paris. That success brought concert invitations from all over the world, and since then Saeijs has appeared as soloist with such renowned orchestras as the Orchestre National de France, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Among notable conductors, she has collaborated with Neeme Järvi, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, Christoph Poppen and Jaap van Zweden.

Passionate about chamber music, Saeijs has joined with the pianist Nino Gvetadze and cellist Maja Bogdanovic to form the Arosa Trio, which performs in such distinguished venues as the Royal Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, and the Tonhalle, Düsseldorf. She also regularly plays with colleagues and friends at international chamber music festivals. Saeijs’s recording of sonatas by Ravel, Respighi and Granados, recorded for Naxos with Maurice Lammerts van Bueren (piano), received enthusiastic reviews: ‘Her playing has the power to move you and make you want to hear more’ (International Record Review).

In addition to performing, Saeijs enjoys mentoring new talent: she regularly gives international masterclasses, and has acted as a main subject teacher at both the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio in Madrid. ‘To me,’ she writes, ‘it is vital to pass on the spirit. Not only the passion I have for my profession, but also the craft itself, and every aspect of it.’
