Nikolai Putilin (baritone)

Born in the Saratov Region, Nikolai Putilin (baritone) graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Institute of Arts in 1983, and has been a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre since 1992. His repertoire includes the title roles in Boris Godunov, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Mazepa, Prince Igor, and Eugene Onegin, Baron Scarpia (Tosca), Iago (Otello), Klingsor (Parsifal), and Don Carlo (La forza del destino), among others. He has appeared at some of the world’s most renowned opera houses, including The Metropolitan Opera (New York), Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (London), La Scala (Milan), the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome, and the Chicago Lyric Opera. Nikolai appears on recordings of The Queen of Spades, Sadko, Iolanta, La forza del destino, Mazepa, Prince Igor, and Boris Godunov for Philips and NHK, and also on the Mariinsky label’s recording of Wagner’s Parsifal as Klingsor. He is a People’s Artist of Russia and the recipient of the State Prize of Russia.
