Stephan Rügamer (tenor)

Stephan Rügamer received his musical education mainly at the Hochschule für Musik in Würzburg and Lübeck before being appointed to the Berlin State Opera by Daniel Barenboim in 1999. Under Barenboim’s direction he appeared as David (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Froh (Das Rheingold), Steuermann (Der fliegende Holländer), Sänger (Rosenkavalier) and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), among many other roles. A guest artist at the opera houses of Frankfurt, Essen, Dresden, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, and at the Théâtre Châtelet (Paris) and Teatro Real (Madrid), Stephan is particularly known for his appearances in Wagner, Mozart and Strauss operas. He is equally at home on the concert and recital platforms and performs a wide range of repertoire, including the Bach Passions, oratorios and cantatas, Mozart and Verdi Requiems, and repertoire by Britten, Cage, Schönberg and Handel. He has appeared at the Lucerne Festival, Bregenz Festival, Salzburg Festival and the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival.
