Sergei Aleksashkin (bass)

Sergei Aleksashkin, People’s Artist of Russia, is one of the Mariinsky Theatre’s leading soloists. He has also performed at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala (Milan) and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and on the stages of major European concert halls. He has worked with conductors such as Sir Georg Solti, Valery Gergiev, Claudio Abbado and Rudolf Barshai. The singer has around forty roles in his repertoire, including Ivan Susanin (A Life for the Tsar), Boris Godunov (Boris Godunov), Zacharia (Nabucco), the Grand Inquisitor and Filippo II (Don Carlo), Ramfis (Aida) and Méphistophélès (La damnation de Faust). In 2007 he performed in the Russian première of Shchedrin’s opera, The Enchanted Wanderer (Flyagin, Storyteller).
