'The first of many new releases for the Christmas season—and what a fine album this is. Nigel Short directs the choir Tenebrae in soulful performances of well-known carols, alongside some that may be new discoveries for you. Be prepared to feel thoroughly festive' (Classic FM Magazine)

White: Sacred Music
SIGCD134  Download only

'What better respite from the secular pressures of Christmas shopping than these sublime sacred sounds from the late sixteenth century. White's Lamentations are not as famous as Tallis's, but their plangent harmonies and clashing lines have an equal intensity. This impressive debut disc by Gallicantus (an all-male group from the Tenebrae choir) includes White's motets and hymns, emphasising his response to the texts and his eloquent way with the single Hebrew letters that begin each Lamentation. The vocal balance is slightly bass-heavy, but the sound is beautifully recorded' (The Observer)

Liszt: Liszt Abroad
SIGCD155  Download only

'The 20 songs recorded here cover a vast range of language and expression, from the extraordinary wildness and drama of ‘Gastibelza’ to the rapt stillness of ‘Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh’. Burnside is a faultless guide along this journey, exhibiting power when required but never forcing either tone or pace; and his pianissimo playing reminds me of Gerald Moore’s—I can think of no greater compliment. The singing too is exemplary, with Rebecca Evans’s floated high notes things of exquisite beauty' (BBC Music Magazine)» More

Verdi: Requiem
Studio Master: LSO0683  2CDs Download only  Studio Master FLAC & ALAC downloads available

'Sir Colin Davis understands this work only too well and invests the wilder passages with a savagery some conductors half his age might think twice about … this is one of the most driven things I’ve heard Davis do—penetrating, on-the-edge conducting that digs deep into the music’s astounding emotional range, and he is rewarded with similarly engaged, idiomatic playing. Try the clear articulation of chaos at the opening of the 'Dies irae'; or listen to the bassoon obbligato in 'Quid sum miser', which has never sounded so bleak … Highly recommended' (Classical Source)» More

Duruflé: Requiem; Grunenwald: De profundis
SIGCD163  Download only

'Jeremy Filsell has clearly studied Duruflé’s orchestral versions and pulls out whatever stops necessary on the Tonbridge School organ to recreate the effect the composer was seeking. On the strength of such inspired organ accompaniment, this album immediately places itself head and shoulders above any other recording of this version and makes a compelling case for the validity of it as a concert rather that purely liturgical performing version' (Gramophone)

'Kentner, a 'great-grandpupil' of the composer, offers Liszt that is aristocratic and technically exquisite—La leggierezza and La campanella as light as sound itself. Colour and sonority are magically imagined' (BBC Music Magazine)
