San Francesco, although a straightforward enough piece, presents a conundrum as yet unsolved: it was composed for organ, with an alternative version for piano supplied alongside, to go with the organ and piano versions of Cantico del Sol. But the organ version of the latter piece has proved elusive, and yet the piano version has been known for some time. San Francesco presents some of the thematic material of the Cantico in rather a processional garb.

Bien que San Francesco soit une pièce assez simple, elle présente une énigme qu’on n’a pas encore résolue: elle fut composée pour orgue, avec une version pour piano, pour aller avec les versions pour orgue et pour piano du Cantico del Sol. Mais la version pour orgue du Cantico reste inconnue, alors qu’on connaît la version pour piano depuis un certain temps. San Francesco reprend une partie du matériau thématique du Cantico dans un style assez processionnel.

San Francesco ist zwar ein unkompliziertes Stück, doch gibt es uns ein Rätsel auf, das bisher noch nicht gelöst werden konnte: es war für die Orgel komponiert, wobei eine Alternativversion für Klavier nebenherlief, und sollte zu den Orgel- und Klavierversionen von Cantico del Sol passen. Doch stellte sich die Orgelversion des letzteren Stückes als unauffindbar heraus, während die Klavierversion schon seit einiger Zeit bekannt ist. San Francesco enthält einiges von dem Themenmaterial des Cantico, jedoch in einer eher feierlichen Aufmachung.
