'I can't imagine an aficionado of 19th-century piano music who wouldn't want Martin's two recordings… I hope we don't have to wait another three years for the next step in what is turning into an exceptional series' (Fanfare, USA)

'Martin's flair comes through flamboyantly in these virtuosic pieces … the ideal advocate for his music' (Raidió Teilifís Éireann, Ireland)

Berceuse 'Cradle song', RO27 Op 47
? 1861; published in New York in 1862; alternative title: Cradle song

Introduction  EnglishFrançaisDeutsch
This slight piece of Victoriana (or should it be Lincolniana?) plays to the public’s susceptibility to overt sentimentality. Charming it may be, though listened to blind few could detect Gottschalk’s monogram on a single bar which, if nothing else, proves his versatility. But it hardly compares with Chopin’s miniature masterpiece of the same name.
