The Valse-Caprice No 2 in D flat major is an elaboration of a piece by Alexander Taneyev, a distant relation of the much better known Sergey. Here Balakirev gives full rein to his gift for cadenza-like flourishes, which introduce and punctuate Taneyev’s music, culminating in a coda that features the most extravagant of many textural accretions.

La Valse-Caprice no 2 en ré bémol majeur développe une pièce d’Alexander Taneïev, un parent éloigné du célèbre Sergueï. Die Valse-Caprice Nr. 2 in Des-Dur ist die Ausarbeitung eines Stücks von Alexander Tanejew, ein entfernter Verwandter des wesentlich bekannteren Sergei Tanejew. Hier lässt Balakirew zur Einführung und Punktierung von Tanejews Musik seiner Begabung für kadenzähnliche Verzierungen freien Lauf, die ihren Höhepunkt in einer Coda mit den extravagantesten der im übrigen zahlreichen strukturellen Ballungen finden.
