Nikitin, Evgeny (bass)

Evgeny Nikitin (bass)

Evgeny Nikitin (bass-baritone) studied at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire, graduating in 1997. During his final year of study he was invited to join the Mariinsky Theatre and he has since performed extensively, taking part in the company’s most significant productions. His appearances include performances in much of the established repertoire, with roles in Wagner’s operas occupying a special place. As a Wagnerian singer Evgeny Nikitin has been singled out for praise by Russian and international critics. In 2008 he performed as Klingsor (Parsifal) at Paris’s Opera Bastille and as the Dutchman (Der Fliegende Holländer) at the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus. He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2002 as Dolokhov (War and Peace), and has since returned to play Colline (La bohème), Pogner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Fasolt (Das Rheingold), and Orest (Elektra). He has toured widely in Europe, the USA, Israel, and Turkey, and appears on recordings of Boris Godunov and Semyon Kotko for Philips, and Parsifal on the Mariinsky label.
