Paul Whelan (baritone)
Born in New Zealand, Paul Whelan studied at the Wellington Conservatoire and the Royal Northern College of Music, where he won several prestigious prizes and scholarships. In 1993 he won the Lieder Prize in the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. He pursues an active concert and recital career, and has given recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, St David’s Hall in Cardiff, the Blackheath Concert Halls, the Cheltenham Festival, and for BBC Pebble Mill. Highlights of recent seasons have included his debuts at Covent Garden, the Netherlands Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Munich State Opera and Welsh National Opera.
