Three further Hyperion new releases present the six Haydn Opus 50 String Quartets (the 'Prussian' quartets) in characteristic performances of historical integrity from The London Haydn Quartet, the stunning Nadejda Vlaeva in a significant recital centred on the Bortkiewicz Piano Sonata No 2 (an album predominantly of material only recently discovered and not previously recorded), and a final volume in our Conductus series of music and poetry from thirteenth-century France—masterful interpretation comes, as ever, from tenors John Potter, Christopher O'Gorman and Rogers Covey-Crump.
From Signum Classics we have a new recording of popular works for guitar and orchestra: Christoph Denoth and the London Symphony Orchestra perform music by Palomo and Rodrigo in a programme entitled Nocturnos de Andalucía. Jesus College Choir Cambridge has recorded The Evening Hour, a contemplative—and beautifully performed—recital of British choral music from the sixteenth and twentieth centuries. Sun, Moon, Sea and Stars is a new album of choral works and arrangements by Bob Chilcott; Nigel Short conducts his elite Tenebrae Consort.
