The Elgar Cello Concerto holds an unassailable position in musical mythology and has, of course, been recorded many times; Steven Isserlis's own version from 1988 (with the LSO on Virgin Classics) continues to receive deserved acclaim. For this triumphant new recording Steven is joined by the Philharmonia Orchestra and favoured collaborator Paavo Järvi and has chosen to couple this most august of works with the lyrical Walton Concerto and shorter pieces by Gustav and Imogen Holst—a more than worthy Record of the Month for March 2016.

From Signum Classics we have a new recording of popular works for guitar and orchestra: Christoph Denoth and the London Symphony Orchestra perform music by Palomo and Rodrigo in a programme entitled Nocturnos de Andalucía.
