August 2014 Releases

Hyperion's Record of the Month for August 2014 inaugurates a new Classical Piano Concerto series. This first volume of three Dussek Piano Concertos is auspiciously performed by Howard Shelley and the Ulster Orchestra. For our Romantic Violin Concerto series Tanja Becker-Bender has recorded the Busoni & Strauss Violin Concertos (each composer wrote only one); Garry Walker conducts a vibrant BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Canticles from St Paul's is a showcase not only of wonderful singing but also of the diversity of music in the Anglican tradition over the centuries. Andrew Carwood conducts the St Paul's Cathedral Choir, with Simon Johnson at the helm of the cathedral's stupendous organ.

Re-issued this month are the Corydon Singers' revelatory recording of the two Beethoven Early Cantatas, and the Arvo Pärt Berliner Messe & Magnificat album from Polyphony and Stephen Layton.

Also included on the August sampler are tracks from a current promotion: 'Composers of World War I'.
