January 2009 Releases

Marc-André Hamelin launches Hyperion's 2009 recordings with commanding performances of Chopin Piano Sonatas 2 & 3. January also brings to fruition Graham Johnson's complete Songs of Robert Schumann—this final volume introduces Hanno Müller-Brachmann to the label. Chamber music comes from The Nash Ensemble with exquisite Beethoven String Quintets, and from Poland with the Royal String Quartet's gripping performances of quartets by Szymanowski & Rózycki. Several hundred years earlier, in the alpine Duchy of Savoy, Guillaume Dufay was composing his seminal Missa Se la face ay pale, here brought back to glorious life by The Binchois Consort. There's also a second chance to experience the four Magnard Symphonies, as well as classic recordings from James Bowman with Mr Henry Purcell's Most Admirable Composures, and Gothic Voices with The Voice in the Garden.
