October 2008 Releases

A bumper October 2008 release from Hyperion brings the first recording of Handel's Parnasso in Festa (The King's Consort under its new director Matthew Halls), glorious Praetorius from The Cardinall's Musick, and a boxed-set of Brahms Chamber Music. Two new discs from Westminster Abbey narrate the troubled Reformation Years (Mary and Elizabeth) and introduce Christmas, while alternative choral fare is to be found in the music of Randall Thompson. Busoni, cello sonatas by Alkan and Chopin, Schwanengesang and extraordinarily rich String Trios from Russia … where to start?
