Caritas nach Rossini, S552a
1847; first version
1844; La charité

Introduction  EnglishFrançaisDeutsch
The first (completed) version of the transcription of Rossini's La charité (the third of his Trois Choeurs religieux) was intended for publication but was then submitted to much revision before the published version appeared. The Goethe-Schiller Archive houses Liszt's original manuscript, with instructions to Conradi to prepare a fair copy, leaving some passages blank for Liszt to rewrite. They also have Conradi's manuscript, with these passages completed, and so this version can be performed. The Conradi manuscript also contains later revisions which pertain to the printed version and are not relevant to this original text.
