A Gigg 'F. Tr.', BK22
composer
FVB (No 181). [Neighbour, p 170]

Introduction  EnglishFrançais
The marginal annotation ‘F. Tr’ found in the FVB is perhaps a reference to Francis Tregian, who was for many years thought to have copied the manuscript (but see the note to the Pavana ‘Ph. Tr.’, BK60a,). This A minor (Aeolian mode) jig may be simply an arrangement of a popular tune, and may not even by Byrd (a curious resemblance exists with the opening of a similar one by Tisdale). Normally when Byrd sets such pieces, he follows the main statement with at least one complete variation of his own, as in Wilson’s Wilde.
