Prelude and Fugue in B minor, BWV544
composer

Prelude  [5'49]
Fugue  [5'07]

Introduction  EnglishFrançaisDeutsch
This is one of the most original of the last great preludes and fugues from the Leipzig years, the Prelude and Fugue in B minor, BWV544. The prelude, in an advanced and highly decorated Rococo style, combines grace and grandeur in an individual marriage between the older fugal techniques and the newer expressive harmony induced by frequent appoggiature. The fugue, particularly closely crafted and on two subjects, achieves over and above the contrapuntal ingenuity an inevitability of growth and profundity of thought remarkable even for Bach.
