Dedicated to the French virtuoso violinist Emile Sauret, No 6 is subtitled ‘The yellow beetle’ on account of the words which accompany the opening melody: ‘Beetle, yellow beetle, I don’t ask you, when the summer comes’. After the quicker theme elaborated by variations, an interlude of harmonics imitating birds precedes a dance-like melody. The final quick tune is made up of two motifs. The first one is a variation of the opening melody in the major key, and the second employs sforzando chords.
