The come-in-and-warm-yourself-by-the-fire sounds of the secular carol The very best time of year testify to the massive popularity of Rutter’s music in the USA and the acquaintances made on countless tours of the country. This piece was written for two American choir-director friends, Gene and Audrey Grier, with whom Rutter worked on several of his early trips.
