Introduction  EnglishFrançaisDeutsch
The E flat major Nocturne is announced by a solo high B flat in the right hand. The rhapsodic yearning expressed in this work, and the mastery of counterpoint and rhythm that produces it result in a wondrous piece. How far we have come from those early Nocturnes! The long lines, the uninterrupted flow of ideas, the dialogue between the upper voices that is passionate and spontaneous, the fluidity of the left hand while outlining such rich harmonies, and the poetry of it all give us Chopin at his best. The Op 55 Nocturnes were dedicated to Jane Stirling, his Scottish student and admirer.
