The Nocturne in F major is in A–B–A form, beginning with a disarmingly simple melody over a sustained bass containing triplets to fill out the harmonies. It is a beautiful study in line. The serenity is then interrupted by the middle section which not only throws us into the minor key, but also into high drama and is marked con fuoco (with fire).

Le Nocturne en fa majeur, de forme ABA, s’ouvre sur une mélodie d’une simplicité désarmante posée sur une basse tenue, dotée de triolets pour combler les harmonies. C’est une superbe étude de ligne. La sérénité est alors interrompue par la section centrale qui nous propulse dans la tonalité mineure, mais aussi dans un drame intense, et est marquée con fuoco (avec feu).

Das Nocturne in F-Dur steht in A–B–A Form und beginnt mit einer unwiderstehlich schlichten Melodie über einem ausgehaltenem Bass mit Triolen, die die harmonische Lücke füllen. Es ist dies eine wunderbare Etüde der Melodieführung. Die Gelassenheit wird dann von dem Mittelteil unterbrochen, der uns nicht nur ziemlich plötzlich nach Moll befördert sondern auch hochdramatisch und mit con fuoco (mit Feuer) überschrieben ist.
