'A treasury of good performances. It could hardly be otherwise with this composer and this roster of singers' (Fanfare, USA)

Choice Ayres and Songs III, 1681
author of text

This setting was first published in 1681 in Playford’s third book of Choice Ayres and Songs. Once again the subject matter is that of hopelessly infatuated love, and Purcell responds with a delightfully tuneful setting which gives the continuo a line as important as that for the voice.
