This 1927 English sacred song has had world-wide popularity for good reason. The sentiment is direct and the melody is strong. The composer, May Hannah Brahe, was also known as May H Morgan. After broadcasting this song in 1983 I received a letter from Mrs Boosey saying: “I don’t suppose you know the story of ‘Bless this House’. It was originally published under the title ‘Bless the House’ and then John [McCormack] came to my husband & said “you know, Leslie, it should be ‘Bless this House’.” So it was reissued as that & it at once sold like hot cakes.”
