Sonata 2 has perhaps the most impressive of the slow movements. This is the Largo, which is in the mellow-sounding key of E flat major. It is constructed over a recurring bass figure (a ground bass) which modulates through a succession of keys.

La Sonate 2 a peut-être le plus frappant des mouvements lents. C’est le Largo, qui est dans le ton mélodieux de mi bémol majeur. Il est composé au-dessus d’une basse contrainte récurrente qui module à travers une succession de tons.

Die Sonate 2 bietet den wohl eindrucksvollsten der langsamen Sätze, ein Largo in der weich klingenden Tonart Es-Dur. Es ist über einer wiederholten Baßfigur angelegt, die durch eine Reihe von Tonarten moduliert.
