Liszt made three trips to the British Isles: in 1826, 1840/41, and 1886. The very day he arrived in 1840 he penned (and dated, without entitling it) the Waltz in E flat, which is effectively an album-leaf made from the second theme of the Grande Valse de bravoure, but in a version part-way between the two published versions of the whole work. In this form there is the added attraction of finishing in quite the wrong key. The coda of the same waltz supplied the material for the slight Galop de Bal.

Liszt visita les Iles britanniques trois fois: en 1826, en 1840/41 et en 1886. Le jour même où il arriva, en 1840, il jeta sur le papier (et data, sans ajout de titre) la Valse en mi bémol, qui est vraiment une feuille d’album tirée du second thème de la Grande Valse de bravoure, mais dans une version à mi-chemin entre les deux versions publiées de l’œuvre toute entière. Sous cette forme, elle a ce charme supplémentaire, qu’elle s’achève dans la mauvaise clef. La coda de la même valse fournit le matériel pour le petit Galop de Bal.

Liszt unternahm drei Reisen zu den britischen Inseln: 1826, 1840/41 und 1886. Am Tage seiner Ankunft im Jahre 1840 schrieb er (und datierte er, allerdings ohne Titel) den Walzer in Es-Dur, bei dem es sich effektiv um ein Albumblatt, bestehend aus dem zweiten Thema des Grande Valse de bravoure, handelt, doch in einer Version, die auf halbem Wege zwischen den beiden veröffentlichten Versionen des gesamten Werkes angesiedelt ist. In dieser Form zeichnet sich der Walzer durch den zusätzlichen Reiz aus, daß er in einer ganz falschen Tonart endet. Die Koda des gleichen Walzers bot das Material für den leichten Galop de Bal.
