One collector of the Schubert Edition has already written to us to say he's expecting to suffer withdrawal symptoms after its completion later this year. This is the penultimate volume and it is devoted to music from the penultimate year of Schubert's short life, 1827. There are 17 widely varied items in it including three Italian settings, three rare fragments never before recorded, the comic cantata Der Hochzeitsbraten (one of the very few pieces by Schubert which was meant to make people laugh), and a touching little thanksgiving tribute for the recovery from illness of 17-year-old Irene Kiesewetter the pianist daughter of one of Schubert circle of friends, written for four soloists, choir and two pianists (track 17).

Recorded on various dates in July 1996, 1997, 1998, March 1999
