Where to buy Hyperion CDs

Europe
North America
Asia, Africa, Australasia and South America

Hyperion CDs are well distributed throughout the world by our agents (distributors) whose job it is to supply the record shops in the various countries. However, it is not always easy to find particular discs, or even any Hyperion discs at all, in some shops or cities. We hope the lists on these pages will help you to find what you want.

Record shops everywhere vary in size and efficiency. Very few have the space and the finance to carry all of the tens of thousands of classical CDs now available. The ones that do carry big stocks - the so-called megastores - are generally to be found only in the largest cities. But there are many excellent record shops, with well-informed staff, in the smaller towns and cities of the world, who do their best to keep good stocks and, if they don't have a particular title, are willing to order it. Hyperion CDs are easily available to any dealer who will take the trouble to order them from our distributor.

Of course many people live far away from towns or cities of any size, and many of those towns either have no record shop at all or one without a classical section but which, for want of anything better, potential buyers often visit to ask for what they want, and if necessary to order it. Some of these shops may say that a particular disc is "not available", or "deleted". DO NOT BELIEVE IT. It may be true but it frequently isn't.

It should be noted too that many deleted Hyperion CDs have been reissued with a new number, either on Helios or as a dyad. Unfortunately the booklets with the thousand or so 'back catalogue' items carry artists' discographies with numbers which are now out of date. For instance, several recordings by Thea King listed with CDA numbers are now available in the CDH or CDD series. Please see 'Deletions and Reissues' for a list of these.

A Note about Deletions

We do find it necessary to delete titles from time to time. The decision to delete something is usually made when stocks of it run out in our warehouse in London and we have to decide whether to re-press it or not. However, there are possibly hundreds of copies still available for sale around the world on the shelves of distributors and dealers. For this reason we do not remove the title from our Web pages until we are sure that it has disappeared altogether. This can lead to frustrations because it means that a disc still available in one country is not available in another, where attempts to buy it are therefore unsuccessful. This is a consequence of the global nature of the Internet; it is not possible to flag deleted items with such words as 'deleted in the UK, the USA and Australia but still available in Canada, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Israel . . .' etc, because the situation is changing all the time.

As stated above, for various reasons, some shops may tell you that a title is deleted when it isnít. Sometimes, though, all they mean is that it is deleted from their own database. In other words they no longer stock it. Sadly, this seems to be happening more and more. Therefore, if you are told that a disc is no longer available we urge you to try some of the other dealers on these pages, or get in touch with our distributor in your country, or even .

You may prefer to order your CDs by mail. Some countries are well provided with mail-order record companies; some are not. Please see our home page for links to mail-order companies in Britain, the USA, Australia, France and Germany. We are able to supply direct from Hyperion too. If you do wish to order direct from us we currently accept Visa or Mastercard, so please tell us the number and expiry date as well as your address and the three-digit security code on the reverse of your card.

But please try your local retailers first if there are any. The following shops have all been put forward by our distributors as particularly good Hyperion dealers. They are listed alphabetically, by country and then by city.

We are always interested to hear of buyers' experiences, so if you receive particularly good and helpful service - or maybe even bad service! - from these shops or any others, we would like to hear about it. We shall keep the list under constant supervision, revising it as necessary.
