APR's Musique-Vérité label is devoted to live recordings. The exceptional musical interest and historical significance of these recordings have taken precedence over sonic considerations.

Since its foundation in 1986, Appian Publications & Recordings Ltd (to quote the full title) has won an enviable reputation as a quality label devoted predominantly—though not exclusively—to historic piano recordings. In particular APR has won countless laurels for the high standard of its 78rpm restoration work—"Transfers of genius" to quote one critic—as well as the detail and content of its booklets.

This second volume in a series which restores the live Carnegie Hall recordings of Simon Barere to the catalogue is devoted to a single recital given on the 9th March 1947. As such, it is one of the most comprehensively documented events in Barere’s career. Just three performances are missing—all Chopin: the Fantasie was followed by the Fourth Ballade while the Nocturne was preceded by the Third Scherzo and followed by four etudes (Opp. 10/1 & 8, Op. 25/7 and Op. 10/4). There might possibly have been additional encores to those presented here.
