Founded by the distinguished trumpet virtuoso, John Wallace, in 1986, The Wallace Collection has become recognised as one of the world’s foremost brass ensembles. In repertoire covering some six centuries, the ensemble has acquired an international reputation for excellence and for innovation which has established it as a leading group in its field. During its sixteen year career, the ensemble has travelled to all five continents performing at major festivals and on prestigious concert platforms. Pioneering educational work, which has been at the heart of the group’s performing activity since its inception, has led to a strong link with the British Council which has supported The Wallace Collection on trips to countries as far apart as Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Botswana, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Russia, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Ukraine.

Drawing on a team comprising some of Britain’s leading brass players, The Wallace Collection’s flexibility has enabled them to perform the complete gamut of brass repertory on both period and modern instruments. The group’s extensive discography led them to launch their own label which has enabled them to make available again the majority of their acclaimed past recordings.

As a result of his appointment from January 2001 as Principal of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, The Wallace Collection is about to disappear, but in name only. The group’s members will be continuing John Wallace’s ground-breaking work by forming themselves into a new ensemble, The Golden Section, which will continue to innovate whilst maintaining the very highest of standards in the core of repertory for brass and wind which has been the group’s forte to date.
