French violinist Philippe Graffin studied with Joseph Gingold and Philipp Hirschhorn. He has established a reputation for his individual style of playing and his interest in neglected works. He rediscovered original settings of Chausson's Poème and Ravel's Tzigane. Concerto engagements include the BBC Symphony Orchestra, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Graffin is founder and artistic director of the “Consonances” chamber music festival in St Nazaire, France. Recordings include the complete Chausson chamber music and Saint-Saëns music for violin as well as the Elgar Violin Concerto, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Violin Concerto, a recital disc of Debussy, Enesco & Ravel, and the Mozart Duos with violist Nobuko Imai. A number of composers have written music for him including Vytautas Barkauskas, Philippe Hersant, David Matthews, Yves Prin and Rodion Shchedrin.
