Emily Beynon (flute)

Emily Beynon is principal flute of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Prior to this appointment she was principal flute with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Glyndebourne Touring Opera.

Born in Wales, Emily began her formal musical education as a junior at the Royal College of Music with Margaret Ogonovsky, and from there went on to study with William Bennett at the Royal Academy of Music and with Alain Marion in Paris. During her studies she was a top-prize winner at several international flute competitions. In 1994 she was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.

As a concerto soloist Emily has appeared with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra, European Union Chamber Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and Guildhall String Ensemble in Britain, Europe, Egypt and Japan. In addition she has given recitals at major venues and festivals in Britain and appeared as a guest with the Škampa Quartet, the Nash Ensemble, Britten Quartet and Leopold String Trio. She has broadcast frequently for BBC Radio 3 and in 1999 she made her BBC Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall.

In 1994 Emily's first CD was released on the Metier label, featuring British works for flute and harp with her sister Catherine.
