David Honeyball’s international reputation as a conductor was established through his dynamic interpretation of brass music with the London Brass Virtuosi. He has gradually widened his conducting interests to include choral conducting, and is now concentrating on developing his orchestral work. Honeyball studied tuba with the late John Fletcher and piano with Peter Pettinger at the Royal Academy of Music, and first came to prominence as a tuba soloist with the worldrenowned Philip Jones Brass Ensemble whilst still a student. He first conducted at the BBC Proms in 1988, in a concert with the BBC Singers and the London Brass Virtuosi. He broadcasts frequently and his recordings are played worldwide. He is currently writing Classic Brass, a radio series of six one-hour programmes on the development of brass instruments and music, which he will be presenting during the Winter of 1996/7.
