Lukasz Borowicz (conductor)

Lukasz Borowicz has been the Artistic Director of the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2007. Born in Warsaw in 1977, he studied with Boguslaw Madey at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw, where he later also received a doctorate in conducting under the supervision of Antoni Wit. He has served as an assistant to Kazimierz Kord at the National Opera in Warsaw, to Antoni Wit at the Warsaw Philharmonic and to Iván Fischer at the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In 2006 he was appointed Chief Guest Conductor of the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra. He has appeared as a guest conductor with many leading orchestras in Europe. He has also appeared at many festivals, including the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, where he conducted the Haydn Orchestra and Ewa Podles, and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, where he conducted the Hanover Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in Moniuszko’s Halka.

Lukasz Borowicz has done a great deal to revive neglected Polish music, in performance and recordings, including the operas Flis (‘The Raftsman’) by Moniuszko, L’Hirondelle inattendue by Laks, Statkowski’s Maria, Grazyna Bacewicz’s The Adventures of King Arthur, and Dobrzynski’s Monbar or the Filibusters. His recordings have been awarded the Diapason d’Or and been nominated for a Preis der Deutschen Schallplatenkritik.
