Sandra Medeiros (soprano)

Sandra Medeiros was born in São Miguel in the Azores. She graduated from the Lisbon College of Music, where she studied with Joana Silva. Sandra continued her studies (with scholarships from the Gulbenkian Foundation and the National Cultural Centre) at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she was a pupil of Julie Kennard and Clara Taylor. In 2003 she graduated with distinction and received her Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Performance. Sandra’s prizes have included the Amanda von Lob Memorial Prize and second prize in the Bidu Sayão International Vocal Competition in Brazil in 2004.

Sandra Medeiros has performed under the direction of renowned conductors including Michael Corboz, Sir Charles Mackerras, Laurence Cummings, Alberto Lysy, Lawrence Foster and Marc Minkowski. She has also performed with the leading Portuguese orchestras, and with Camerata Lysy Gstaad and the Warsaw Symphony Orchestra; she has performed in music festivals in Portugal and Spain, as well as at the London Bach Festival and Brancaster Midsummer Music in Norfolk. Outside Portugal Sandra Medeiros has sung in Luxembourg, Spain, Germany, England, Brazil, Uruguay and Bulgaria. Her operatic roles include Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro) Princesse (L’enfant et les sortilèges), Twin sister (Philip Glass’s White Raven), Frasquita (Carmen), Serpina (Pergolesi’s La serva padrona), Cardella (Pergolesi’s Lo frate ’nnamorato), Carlota (Marcos Portugal’s Le donne cambiate) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni).
