The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble

The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble is a virtuoso period instrument group at the forefront of the early music scene. As well as giving recitals in its own right, it collaborates regularly with leading vocal ensembles such as Cantus Cölln, I Fagiolini, Trinity Baroque, and many others. It makes regular appearances at major festivals (York, Brighton, Dartington, Cheltenham and the BBC Proms) and is increasingly in demand as a recording ensemble. The group has recorded music by Gabrieli and Lodovico Grossi da Viadana with I Fagiolini for a disc entitled ‘1612 Italian Vespers’. The Ensemble also featured on I Fagiolini’s monumental recording of Missa Ecco si beato giorno, a Mass in forty parts by Alessandro Striggio (a recording that won the 2011 Gramophone Award for early music as well as the prestigious Diapason d’Or). In recent years it has made appearances at festivals in Canada, France, Italy, Turkey, Germany, and the Netherlands. Members of the group also play with other leading early music ensembles such as L’Arpeggiata, Ensemble La Fenice, Tafelmusik, Concerto Palatino, The Taverner Consort & Players, Gabrieli Consort & Players, and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. They can also often be seen performing at the gloriously reconstructed Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on London’s Bankside.
